GP surgeries are generally closed on Irish bank holidays. Out-of-hours GP co-ops cover urgent care, and hospital emergency departments stay open for emergencies. Online GP services also operate: GetYourGP has Irish-registered GPs available by video every bank holiday, 8am to 10pm.

Bank holidays are charged at out-of-hours rates. A GetYourGP video consultation on a bank holiday costs €50 — the same as our evening and weekend rate. Out-of-hours GP co-ops typically charge €50-€65 or more per visit. The price for your chosen time is always shown before you pay.

Many pharmacies close on bank holidays, and those that open — often larger chains and shopping-centre branches — usually run limited hours. Check your local pharmacy before travelling. If you have an online consultation, your prescription is sent to your chosen pharmacy by Healthmail, so it is waiting when the pharmacy opens.

Yes. After a video consultation, where the GP considers a prescription appropriate, it is transmitted directly to your chosen Irish pharmacy over Healthmail, the HSE-endorsed secure clinical email service. You collect the medication whenever the pharmacy is open — no paper script needed.

You can see an Irish-registered GP by video on any bank holiday, and your GP can issue a medical certificate for your employer or college where it is clinically appropriate. Certificates cannot be backdated: cover runs from the date of your consultation.
