Prescription weight loss medications can help when diet and exercise alone haven't worked. Our Irish-registered GPs can prescribe medications as part of a comprehensive weight management plan.
Available Treatments
Our GPs can prescribe:
- Orlistat (Xenical) - blocks fat absorption
- Liraglutide (Saxenda) - GLP-1 injection for appetite control
- Semaglutide (Wegovy) - weekly GLP-1 injection (when available)
Who Qualifies?
You may be suitable for prescription weight loss if:
- BMI of 30 or above (obese), OR
- BMI of 27 or above with weight-related health conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol)
Requirements
To use this service, you need:
- Recent weight and height measurements
- Blood pressure reading (within 3 months)
- Recent blood test (for GLP-1 medications)
