Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about bacterial vaginosis.
BV is not an STI, but sexual activity can affect vaginal bacteria. Male partners don't need treatment, but female partners might.
BV causes thin, greyish discharge with fishy odor. Thrush causes thick, white discharge with itching. Different treatments are needed.
Recurrent BV (3+ times per year) may need longer treatment or preventive strategies. Mention this in your questionnaire.
It's best to avoid sex until you finish treatment and symptoms clear. Metronidazole may also interact with alcohol - avoid for 48 hours after treatment.
